How to switch from disposable pads

As women, at Wemoon we do understand that it can seem strange and off-putting to consider switching to reusable cloth pads when you are used to disposable products. Many of us have been taught to be ashamed of our menstrual blood and that makes it difficult to get used to the idea of handling and washing our pads. But whether it is for health, comfort, environmental or financial reasons, the fact that you are here indicates that some of the benefits of reusable pads are important to you.

Trying out cloth pads

We want you to feel confident in choosing the Wemoon alternative so here are some suggestions on how to make the switch and incorporate Wemoon into your monthly self-care routine:

  • You might like to start off by buying one or two pads to trial Wemoon over one cycle. Use your cloth pad alternating with your current product. See how it works for you then choose from a variety of styles and sizes to suit your needs every day of the month.
  • If you prefer to wear tampons during the day we suggest you try a large size pad for night time to give your body a rest from the tampons. It is a soft and comfy way to introduce Wemoon into your life.
  • You could experiment with a couple of lights to replace pantiliners and see how comfy they are before moving on to one of the suggestions above.
  • Or take advantage of our special offer to buy a cost effective selection of pads in different sizes to try out—at a fabulous one third off the normal price.

Introducing Wemoon into your daily self-care routine:

Taking care of your body with cloth pads will initially involve a little extra thought. But just as you allow time for other self-care rituals such as cleansing, toning and moisturizing, putting on make-up, or washing your hair, once your pad care becomes part of your daily routine it will no longer seem difficult. We suggest that you:

  • Create a simple routine of soaking your pads in cold tap water overnight. You can use a 2-litre jar which fits beautifully into one of our gorgeous Moon Bags or simply a bucket in the laundry.
  • Rinse the pads out in the morning and add them to a wash load or put them in a bucket with washing detergent until you are ready to wash. You might even like to visualise as you rinse that you are releasing all the old energy from the past month and making way for the new.
See our Questions & Answers pages for more tips
  • Some women prefer to wash their pads out in the shower without soaking and simply hang them on the line or in front of a heater
  • When you are out and about working, shopping or exercising your Wemoons can be hygienically folded into small squares and popped into your bag or your Moon Purse ready for soaking when you return home.
  • Always put your pads in the same drawer ready for your next period. No need to rush to the store to buy pads!

What's it like to switch from disposable pads and tampons?

Women often report a sense of freedom when they switch from disposable products. They love walking past the feminine hygiene aisle in the supermarket, secure in the knowledge that they are self-sufficient with their comfy pads waiting at home in the drawer.

They also tell us that there is something intimate about using your own pads every month. Many of our customers have told us that over time their pads start to feel like old friends. Why would you go out to the store for the "convenience" of buying expensive disposables when you could be spending time nurturing yourself instead?

But the most powerful result that we have found of choosing cloth pads, is the reconnection with our bodies, with our natural body wisdom and with our intuition. As we take steps to overcome the conditioning that says we must hide our cycles, even from ourselves; as we start to handle our blood, to love and understand our body's rhythm, and to appreciate the specialness and power of our bleeding time, then the reward is a whole world of feminine wisdom and understanding which begins to be revealed.
This is real freedom!

Menstrual wisdom:
a change in attitude

"... absolutely loved them. They were just the right length, didn't bunch or slip, didn't leak, and didn't stick to my skin or cause itching like the (disposables) I've been using."
